Substance use is often the symptom. We help you treat what's underneath it.
Trauma-informed care for substance use recovery. EMDR and evidence-based therapy for the root causes, not just the symptoms.
Most people don't develop a substance use problem out of nowhere. Somewhere underneath it is often pain that never got processed: trauma, loss, chronic stress, or a nervous system that learned to cope the only way it knew how. Treating the substance use alone, without treating what's underneath it, is why so many people cycle through recovery without it sticking.
We treat both at once. Using EMDR alongside motivational interviewing and relapse prevention strategies, we help you process the underlying trauma while building real, sustainable tools for staying sober. This isn't about white-knuckling your way through recovery. It's about no longer needing to.
What we help with: early recovery and relapse prevention, co-occurring trauma and substance use, PTSD and C-PTSD alongside addiction, alcohol and substance use tied to grief or loss, family and attachment wounds that fuel unhealthy coping, and sober support for those already in recovery who want to go deeper.
What to expect: treatment is paced to you and never rushed. Early sessions focus on stabilization, safety, and building coping resources before we touch anything underneath the surface. If you're newly sober, we'll work at a pace that supports your recovery rather than destabilizing it. If you've been sober for a while and are ready to process what's underneath, we go there together, at the speed of trust. Sessions are available over telehealth, anywhere in California.
Co-occurring trauma and substance use is one of the most common, and most undertreated, combinations in mental health care. Addressing both together leads to better, longer-lasting outcomes than treating either alone.
